A new home

This is a card I made the other day using the front of a shaped card matted on to the red card blank. I was going to leave the shaped card as it was, but the only piece that created a fold was at the bottom and I'm not sure that it would have survived handling ... and, in any case, it means that I've got the back of the card to use for a future one.

I masked off the roof so that I could run the 'wall' through my cuttlebug with the bricks embossing folder and I then swiped the embossed surface with fired brick distress ink, using the same at the top of the chimney with some brown corduroy lighted brushed on the roof.  With the addition of the sentiment and the mirror card door, the card was finished.

Special birthday

I was asked to make a birthday card for a 70 year old featuring a garden and flowers. I used a spotted pink background paper, on to which I matted gold mirror card and then used some Kanban pieces to create three layers of invertage for a garden scene. The flowers are craftime.

CHNC challenge 147: peace

Don't the weeks go by quickly? Here we are again at Saturday and time for CHNC challenge 147, which, this week is all about 'peace' - please click on the link to see what it's about and, hopefully, join in with your own Christmas cards the depict 'peace'.

One of today's sponsors is CAS-ual Fridays and they generously supplied me with a set of stamps called 'Christmas Carols' - you can see them here - some of which I've used on my card, as well as a dove stamp I already had.

I'm annoyed with myself because I made this card a while ago in readiness for this challenge and didn't record what papers these were and now I can't remember and can't find the original pad they came from. I think they are Kaisercraft 'turtle dove'. but If anyone can help and tell me what they actually are, I'll be delighted. They are beautiful papers - as you can see the one used inside the gatefold is gold foiled. I heat embossed all of the images I used with detail gold powder.

The paperclips are only there to hold the card closed for the photo.

Birthday bunting ...

... and cake.

Daring cardmakers are celebrating their 7th birthday (incredible to think that it was 7 years ago that this wonderful challenge blog started). Their challenge for this week is 'Birthday banners and bunting'  and thee is a lovely prize from Tea house bridge.

The background paper of my card is by Best Creation Inc. The bunting is taken from some Flutterbys paper garland. The glittered cupcakes are some left over from a Kanban kit (still got quite a bit of the kit actually, even though I've used lots).

Bringing home the holly

This is my second card for the mid-month inspiration for Christmas cards all year round challenge for October 'getting ready for Christmas'. Please click on the link and see the lovely festive crafting of the rest of the team and, hopefully, join in the challenge - you still have plenty of time.

And don't forget:

'This can be anything associated with the preparations for Christmas - presents, baking, Christmas lights, trimming the tree etc.

For something a little different this month we will have two challenges running at the same time.
The first challenge will be a single card challenge and we will be drawing a random prize winner and our top three from here.

The second challenge will be for those who make a set of five cards.

You may make five cards the same or five different ones, you just need to upload a photo clearly showing five.
Now you can enter both challenges but you cannot enter one of your five cards in the single entry challenge. '

For my card I've used a shaped card blank which I distressed with fired brick distress ink, adding another of those glittery oval images (I have a lot of these - can't remember where I got them from), with the addition of a Craftwork cards sentiment circle and layered Docrafts flowers.

This is my first card for the mid-month inspiration for Christmas cards all year round challenge for October 'getting ready for Christmas'. Please click on the link and see the lovely festive crafting of the rest of the team and, hopefully, join in the challenge - you still have plenty of time.

For my card I've used an offcut of Hunkydory card with the tartan border on to which I mounted an oval image of children bringing home some Christmas greenery. The tied ribbon is a piece from a lot that I bought some years ago now (sadly, not much of it left). Flowers are prima and the sentiment circle is Craftwork cards.

Cheerful Stamp Pad challenge 71: let's stencil

This is my design team card for Cheerful stamp pad challenge 71: let's stencil. Please click on the link and see what the other members of the design team have created and also, hopefully, join in with your own projects that have been produced using a stencil.

Vicki at Cheerful stamp pad said: 'This challenge is a little different from what I usually post. It is "Use a Stencil". The DT does not care how the stencil was used. It can be on a art journal page, a canvass, a card or even an ATC. You are not limited is to how you use your stencil as long as we can tell that a stencil was used.'

I used stencils with a gelli plate. First I made a print of yellow dabbing a scrunched up piece of paper on to the acrylic paint to give a mottled effect. I then used a lovely leafy stencil from Clarity Stamps to overlay and lightly stamped some trees in the background using an Inkadinkado stamp with memento rich cocoa. I randomly used Sheena Douglass stamps inked stazon black.

CHNC challenge 146: make it square

Today sees the start of another new challenge on my CHNC blog, so for challenge 146 I'm asking for square Christmas cards - a nice easy one this week so that you can get on with lots of cards to avoid any panic towards Christmas.

For my card I've used one of the inserts kindly supplied by Bearly mine designs, using it for the front of the card rather than for an insert, with the lovely candle picture added in the frame.

Love is worth taking a risk

This is my design card for the Sweet Pea Stampers challenge: sparkle and shine. Please click on the link and admire the wonderful crafting of the rest of the team - and please join in the challenge - if you have any Sweet Pea images we would love to see them, but you don't have to have them to join in.

I used Lisa Victoria's 'Daphne's Dilemma' Sweet Pea rubber stamp coloured with Spectrum Noirs with Art Institute glitters and glossy accents. The background is Hukydory card and Embossalicious 'floral vine' embossing folder strip on pink pearlised card. The sentiment was generated with my Dymo letratag and I added a few flowers and gems to give some more shine.

Hello

Another autumnal card with a background made with my gelli plate. I fist made a layer of yellow acrylic paint that I dabbed with scrunched up paper to give a mottled effect. I then used some red with a dotty stencil and then some brown with a swirly leaf stencil - both from Clarity Stamps.

The leaves are similar to the one used on the previous card - they look much better in real life - you can see through them more.

The background was embossed using Embossalicious floral vine and swiped with firebrick distress ink. The coloured strips on the side are scraps left from gelli plate prints using various stencils. The leaf is one of many I bought years ago. The charm at the base of the leaf was originally silver, so I coloured it with alcohol ink.

For this tag I used one of the Edwardian children pictures kindly supplied by the sponsor of Cheerful stamp pad challenge 70: Lunagirl Vintage Images, digitally adding 'My sweetheart' and the phrase that says 'A rose speaks of love silently in a language known only to the heart.' The flowers around the tag are from my stash, as is the piece of sparkly netting used for the tie of the tag.

Merry Christmas

It was Maureen' s turn to choose the theme for today's Christmas Card Club challenge and she asked us to recycle something on to our card. I cut out a circle around a wreath that was rescued from an old card. I layered an offcut of vellum that has shiny embossed lettering, adding a piece of ribbon to match with the glittered holly berries. I wrapped the vellum around the back of the card, edging with a piece of the red ribbon.

CHNC challenge 145: picture inspiration

It's time for a new challenge on my CHNC and for CHNC challenge 145 I've supplied this lovely picture of a painting by Loyd Fannin: Bethlehem Nativity:
Loyd Fannin's Bethlehem Nativity water colour painting
I'm asking everyone to take inspiration from this picture - use the colours or anything that the picture suggests - depicting some part of the nativity story perhaps.

For my card I've used paper and glittered elements from a My Paper Stash Library kit, on to a shaped card that I won for a challenge recently. I had to cut the paper around the card shape, then sanded lightly and inked with copic BV17, running this along the top of the card as well.

This time the lovely little girls are hanging up their stockings on Christmas Eve and Santa is handing out presents to the children, while the children in the bottom right are going out to carol sing.

For this stepper card I've used snippets of Kanban card left over from a kit from last year and some miscellaneous pictures and an Anna Griffin sentiment. The glittered white flowers are Prima.
