HS:MS favourite spots: lounge

'This next week will see us finding those little spots around our home that we just love. It might be a corner of a cabinet or it might be a little trinket in a certain room. Today I would like you all to find your favourite spot/piece in your lounge.'

It's very difficult to choose a favourite spot in our lounge - it could be my armchair, various family photos that bring back memories and are a constant reminder of those very dear and precious to us, ornaments and knick-knacks that have been kept for sentimental reasons.

In the end I chose this Lladro porcelain figurine that was given to me by my colleagues when I retired (early) from teaching:

Very simply, three trees folded and stuck together to form a 3D tree, decorated with Poundland bling!

I started off with a tin that had Clarins 'give-away' cosmetics in it:



I used a blend of stonewashed, wild plum and stream alcohol inks on the lid and covered the sides with one of the DCWV pocket full of posies paper, added blooms and navy gingham ribbon and a 'cottons' sign:

....so yup another Christmas card and anyone who makes 3 cards will get an extra loyalty point - remember YOU have LOADS to make.'

First card has a lovely sheen to the paper that just doesn't show on the photo:

HS:MS indigo and pink (or purple!)

Yesterday's HS:MS: 'Our penultimate colour for the rainbow theme is Indigo. Give me your Indigo.'

I don't really know whether you'd call this indigo, but I think it's the nearest I've got. Awful photos (taken quickly, with my reflection - didn't manage to get anything done yesterday, so have done these today speedily):

Today: 'Not essentially last in the rainbow (like Violet is) but its a shade of Indigo and that would be just too boring. I know you can find us some pink.'

I wasn't sure until I switched on whether we were going for violet, purple or pink, so here is a bit of variety - some of my 'really useful boxes':





And lastly, here are some pink socks I bought this morning at the chemist while I waited for my prescription to be done:

I've never attempted one of these before - I had fun doing it and it's far from perfect, but thought I'd still show it:




The plain green area is ready for writing a greeting to and from.

Now I've made one I'd have a better idea of what I am doing, so hope that doing another one would create a better result.

Crafts by Carolyn challenge: a play on words

I know that I've shown similar cards before, but there's only a certain number of variations on a theme that a girl can do! These are for the crew challenge 008 set by Nicola at Carolyn's: 'This challenge is all about words....the cornier and punnier the better! They can be your words, a quote that makes you laugh....whatever tickles you!'

So, they're not very original, but here they are:

HS:MS SOS 9

Today on HS:MS it's SOS.

A couple of months ago, my main laptop died and I hadn't backed up some of the pictures and scans I had on there (I know, I know ...).

Anyway, this afternoon John was getting some stuff ready for the council to come tomorrow and give an estimate to dispose of - we have quite a lot of old stuff in the garage and shed that really needs to go - and I thought that the dead laptop might as well join the rubbish.

Still disappointed that it had died on me and I had lost some family photos, I decided to have one more try to get it working. A couple of months ago I had tried everything - trying to get into the bios, pressing F2 or F8 or whatever, tried the restore disc, the windows xp disc - zilch!

So I thought I'd have one last try to resurrect it - did all the things I'd done before - nothing - tried about six times. Completely switched off again and thought I'd try again and .... you've guessed .... it came on and loaded up with windows and everything that was originally on there. Because I don't trust it, I then saved pictures and scans to an external hard drive.

What, you may well be asking by now, has this got to do with my SOS photo for today. Well, on there were some photos of my dad's last birthday on 29 October 2003 when he was 86 - sadly he died a month later.

The photo I've chosen isn't a good one (at the time my photos were taken with an early digital camera and the resolution was poor compared with what's available these days). But I've chosen the photo because it's one of the last that I took of dad with mum and even though he was in a nursing home suffering from dementia he enjoyed bits of his birthday, although five minutes later he had no idea what had happened.

HS:MS SPS 9

Saturday is SPS on HS:MS and ever since Chris told us about the 'scrap your boobs' challenge on It's a Creative World I've been trying to summon up courage to do this. I decided today is the day, so here is my LO:



In my enthusiasm for getting on and doing this (at last!) I completely forgot that Chris has been kindly supplying pink papers to be downloaded, so my LO doesn't include these.

So far I'm only submitting this as my HS:MS photo for today - partly because I'm not sure that I'm brave enough to submit it to It's a Creative World and partly because the light had faded by the time I'd finished it and there's evidence of the flash and the LO isn't as pink here as it is irl.

I'll decide tomorrow whether I'm brave enough to take a daylight photo and submit it to It's a Creative World - it's all in such a good cause, so I probably will.

This was an easy one for me because I've still got plenty of papers left over from my Anna Griffin kit, so I used them for backgrounds for the first four cards. The first two have small Christmas flowers on them and the next three have a combination of flowers I had in stock and some of the big poinsettia blooms that I got the other day from Poundland (24 for a £1 - good value). The background paper on the last one was one that I got with a minibook (didn't use the book, but have cut up the pages to use for cards):
