I love a bargain

I just happened to wander into TKMaxx the other day and they had quite a few crafty bargains. I wasn't feeling at my best so I didn't feel too much like rummaging through everything, but I did find some packs of We R Memory Keepers Vintage Bluepapers, with flocked lace, an embosed die cut and glitter brads. I couldn't see how many papers were in the pack, but I took a chance because the packs were only £2 each - I bought two. When I got home I discovered that there were 7 papers, 6 of which were double sided, one is stitched and one has a gloss finish to parts of it. The reverse side of two of the papers has four different patterns, ideal for 6 x 6 cards.

So here is a card made with one of the four patterns from the Blue Bird paper, with a strip from one of the others for the wording. I've just added three buttons (don't know why one looks much brighter than it does irl).

I'm linking this for:

With love, with a difference

This card is for Monday lunchtime sketch 157 on Technostamper:

When I was having a bit of a sort out the other day (always seem to be having sort outs!) I went through a box of 'shaped' cards and ones that are a bit different to the norm and found some forgotten gate fold cards with a difference - with three heart shapes down the middle. What I like about it is that it doesn't just meet at the middle but the righthand piece overlaps the left.

The additional silver hearts were plain ones (Sizzix green die)that were stippled with silver acrylic paint (looked better than trying to get it smooth). The panel down the lefthand side of the card was stamped with a ColorBox unmounted molding mat - the idea with this is that you use the mat to create your own stamps with moldable foam - I bought these long ago, but have never used them. The length of the stamp was just right (this is a larger 7" x 5" card when folded. So I inked up the rubber mat with versamark and put the silvery slightly textured card on to it and brayered it. I then heat embossed with detail silver. I've added a whole line of dark blue and silver gems down the lefthand side.

I'm very pleased with the way this has turned out. The photos don't do it justice, but you can see that in some light the silver embossing looks light and in other light it looks much darker. I apologise for the paperclips in the first photo to hold the crossover flaps together.

The inside panel of the card has been covered with a 'with love' sentiment sheet.

I think I might save this card to give to John for Valentine's Day. It's a bit different to the norm, which I like - not my usual style (not that I think I've got a usual style - I suppose I just make all sorts!)
