Butterfly blue

This is my design card for today's Sweet pea stampers 'just because' challenge - please click on the link to see the lovely designs by the rest of the team - and we would love to see you joining in our challenge.

I used Karen Middleton's Sweet Pea Stamps 'butterfly blue' rubber stamp (also available as a digi), coloured with spectrum noir, mounted on to a piece of matching card before mounting on to the background paper from a pad called' summer textures'. The flowers with brad are Panduro hobby, the sentiment circle from Craftwork Cards and the felt buttons from Poundland.

I'm showing this card for my Craftyhazelnut's Patterned Paper challenge for August - please click on the link and have a look if you haven't yet found this challenge blog - and, if you love using patterned paper, please join in.

CHNC challenge extra for August 2014

I find it hard to believe that today is 1 August - here we are already in the eighth month of the year and Christmas is getting closer. Even those crafters who think there is plenty of time before the 'panic' season are beginning to think that it might be a good idea to make a start on their Christmas cards. So why not come and join in with CHNC challenge extra for August. I know that many visitors to my blog have been joining in since earlier in the year, but perhaps some haven't - I'd love to see your entries during August. Please click the challenge link to see the lovely designs by the rest of my team.

So this is my design card for CHNC challenge extra for August. I used Bugaboo Stamps AKV Santa - chimney and frosty digi paper - Bugaboo Stamps are always the kind sponsors of my monthly Christmas challenges. I coloured the image digitally using Microsoft Paint and tore round a perspex oval template, using a bigger one to tear round an offcut piece of paper with a small panel down the right of the card. The main background paper is one of Bugaboo's frosty digis. The fancy border against the brown paper was free with a magazine.I wish that the Ho Ho Hos would show us like they do in real life because they are bright shiny red.

Mum's memory box

At the home where mum is they have provided memory boxes to help the staff and visitors to be able to talk to residents to try and keep memories alive. Mum has Alzheimer's and so this is very helpful, although, sadly, she remembers little of what these are about. She is particularly interested in the picture of her as a baby with her parents and her wedding photo.

So these are the items I chose to put in her box, which is on her door:

I love this photo - the oldest one that we have of nana and grandad and a very rare picture of grandad in a suit. He was in the navy and most pictures we have are in naval uniform, including their wedding photo.

Mum and dad's wedding day:

Mum still enjoys singing and joins in enthusiastically at any opportunity:

Mum hasn't been able to knit or sew for some years now, but she used to. I can remember her making me a coat and hat to match and lots of jumpers etc. I learned to knit at an early age and when I was about 12 we used to knit garments between us - I would do the back and she would do the front, for example.

Mum went into the Post Office when she left school, had a break when she had us children and went back to work when dad was poorly when I was about eleven - and continued to work at the PO until he retired, became the cashier and later was auditor for all the sub offices. She also enjoyed many years as Church Treasurer - she loved working with figures.

And from an early age mum was a Sunday School teacher - I think she only had a break of a couple of weeks when we moved to Bromley before she got roped in to take a class ... and continued till 1990 something. She also began helping in BB from 1968 onwards (and that's me in the photo too!!)

I'm sharing these for the following challenges:

Blues and greens

The background paper is an offcut from a Basic Grey 12 x 12. - I chose this because it has a green distressed look, but, unfortunately, it doesn't show up well.

The two circles were cut on my cricut (from offcut pieces), and then embossed using the Embossalicious floral vine folder with my eBosser. The outer circle was sanded to reveal the white core of the DCWV card that I used and the inner one was brushed with broken china distress in. It's quite difficult to see the effect of this on the photo, but looks better in real life.

The rosette was part of a set from Poundland and the two flowers from Hobbycraft. This is an 8 x 8 card as the circles are quite large. I rounded the corners to fit in with the circles theme.

Trees, trees, trees ...

It was Sylvie's turn to choose the topic for the Christmas Card Club this fortnight and she wants to see trees. I have to confess that I meant my card to be up soon after midnight, but it wasn't to be. What I tried just didn't work and it didn't look any better in the cool light of day this morning.

We went to church this morning for the first time for five weeks (we were away for one Sunday and then I was ill) and we then had lunch out, so, after we got home, I got started on making another card. The background for this is a free background for iPads on the internet - I took out the trees that would have been behind the embossed one that I added because it wouldn't have shown up properly. I also changed the colour to be more green, but there is still a bluey tinge that I like.

I used a piece of white spotted vellum to emboss using the Cuttlebug Christmas tree embossing folder which I then brushed with bundled sage distress ink. The two smaller Christmas trees in the corner were die cut using the same spotty patterned vellum using two of the Die'sire spruce trees dies. Brads and gems added and the sentiment circle.

The card has a bit more dimension than can be seen on the photo.

CHNC challenge 187: cute

It's time for CHNC challenge 187: cute - yes, you have seen something similar before for last week's challenge and the week before, but while the papers etc were out I made a few different cards. So I used some offcut pieces of My Mind's Eye Lost and Found Christmas and some more of those stickers that were used last week and the week before.

Please click on the link to find out more about CHNC challenge 187 - you will see that, as usual, there are some fab prizes to be won - it would be great to see lots joining in.

Suzy Bee's Bloomin' challenge 39: anything goes

This is my design card for Suzy Bee's bloomin' challenge 39 which is, once again 'anything goes' - we would love you to join in - and please click the link to see the lovely crafting of the rest of the team.

I used  Paper Pretties 'thanks a latte' (Paper Pretties are sponsoring the challenge and kindly provided the image). I used the image twice, flipping one horizontally and cropping and slanting so that I got the two cups saying 'cheers' together. I coloured with spectrum noir pens - I also coloured a white heart because I hadn't got one in blue. The backing vellum with wedding day sentiments, held with brads, is some that I have had for a long time.

Completely Christmas challenge 22: anything goes

It's time for Completely Christmas challenge 22 - please click the link to join in the challenge and to see the lovely designs by the rest of the team.

For my design card I used Sparkle n Sprinkle 'a winter wonderland' (they are the sponsors of the challenge) - a ready coloured version. The background and the reverse side to mat the image have been in my Christmas box for ages and I can't remember where it came from. The strips across the top and bottom are Hunkydory snippets. I punched the stars out of a snippet pieces adding the silver stars and gold gems.

It's your special day!

For this card I used a offcut from a 12 x 12 DCWV paper which had 'baby girl' on the other half. I thought the paper wasn't actually just for a baby. I punched the bottom with the Martha Steward punch that I used for the previous card and added the 3D sticker, the sentiment and the glittered rose. I think thi would be suitable for a wedding or an anniversary card, even an engagement.

Happy birthday with Scarlet's letter

Scarlet's letter was one of the Basic Grey papers I bought and I loved it and it is still one of my favourites - glad I still have some left from long ago. I've used it to create the punched circular background using a We R Memory Keepers mini 8 loops punch, matting on to a black card blank. The large flower is Papermania and the black organza layered flower with all the pearls in the centre was from Flourish with a bling - I chose some of these as part of a prize I won with the voucher to spend there.

The glittered sentiment tag isn't crooked, it's the look of the photo.

Fan-tastic Tuesday challenge 45: anything goes

This is my design card for today's Fan-tastic Tuesday 45 - please click the link and see the lovely crafting of the team and join in the fun.

For my card I used a digital image kindly supplied by the sponsor, Sparkle n Sprinkle - 'Eve's sunflower', which I coloured with spectrum noirs.

The three die cuts were all created with Spellbinder's 'marvellous squares', using scraps that I've had for ages. Another piece matching the middle die was used for the background - can't remember where this came from - it was about time it was used. The flowers down the side were with a magazine, felt buttons from Poundland and sentiment from Craftwork Cards.

Pink and silver birthday

The striped glittered card is from my offcuts box and the middle panel is upcycled from a card received long ago (too good to get rid of). The pink bead fronds were another bargain buy from Hobbycraft, the pink bow edged with silver was rescued from somewhere, but I can't remember where, so it is upcycled and the butterflies and flowers are mini glitter embellishments from Poundland. The inside of the card was created with an offcut of Hunkydory pink card with silver foiling - I cut the edge with the Happy Birthday Martha Stewart punch.

Some of the silver looks black rather than silver in the photos because I was trying to avoid glare.

Difficult to see the Happy Birthday, so here is a close up, but looks much better in real life because of the silver foiling on the pink that looks black here.

Wedding or anniversary

A few weeks ago I had to make a trip to Hobbycraft, Orpington to get something and I had a look at their sale items. I bought some packs of votive wraps, designed to go round candles for weddings. I've used a couple of the pearlescent ivory heart ones on these two simple cards, cutting off the ends that are supposed to join the wrap around the candle and mounting them on to gold mirror card. The wrap itself has a lovely subtle golden sheen. The pack of the wraps was £1.50 for 20 - bargain!

The gold mirror behind the filigree panels was taken from my offcuts - you can see that one card has a wider band than the other (according to what offcuts I could find).

The Kanban ivory DL cards with the gold foiling around the edges were another bargain as they were £1 for 10 - they are very elegant and expensive looking.

These cards can have appropriate inserts put in for either wedding day or anniversary.

The glory of Christmas challenge 38: sketch

For today's Glory of Christmas challenge 38 we are asking you to make something following this sketch:

This is my interpretation of it, using the lovely Penny Black caroling penguins stamp inked with memento tuxedo black and coloured with spectrum noir pens. The red paper is Graphic 45 Christmas past collection 'glad tidings' and the other paper is offcuts from My Mind's Eye Glitterbook 12 x 12 papers (I love these and will be really sorry when they have all gone - thankfully, I keep finding pieces!). The sentiment was computer generated and printed.

... on a hot summer's day.

I made this card a few weeks ago using digital papers and items from Funky Hand's 'Colour me happy' and 'Happy happy birthday', tearing round perspex oval templates for the image and matting. I added two different strips of Tim Holtz tissue tape either side of a piece of ribbon. With the addition of the black gems and the sentiment the card was finished.

Suzy Bee's Bloomin' challenge 38

Once again this challenge for Suzy Bee's Bloomin' 38 is 'anything goes' - please click on the link to see the lovely designs of the rest of the team and join in the challenge.

For my design card I've used a digital image kindly supplied by the sponsor, Sparkle n sprinkle Vivian hat lady. I digitally changed the outline of the image to antique, printed out and coloured with spectrum noirs. I tore around a perspex oval template and edged with one of the spectrums. The flowers are from Hobbycraft. The background papers were taken from a beautiful Vintage style graphics book that I bought from Poundland - there are so many beautiful patterns in it and the bonus is that there is a CD included so that they can be printed out without spoiling the book - well worth a £1 - a bargain find a few weeks ago.

For my card I've used Lacy sunshine 'flurry' (supplied by the sponsor), colouring with spectrum noir pens and adding Art Institute glitters. Background papers are offcuts, as is the Hunkydory mat used for mounting the image.
