CHNC challenge 107: Rudolph is resting
Those of you who follow my blog and my CHNC challenges might remember that the challenge for last week was 'Santa has gone into hiding' - well, this week CHNC challenge 107 is 'Rudolph is resting' - make any Christmas card that doesn't feature Rudolph or any other reindeer.
CHNC challenge has three sponsors, one of which is Bugaboo Stamps who kindly supplied an image called 'snow friends window' which I printed out and coloured with copics. The background paper on my A5 card is Basic Grey Dasher 'flannel shirt' - I used two offcuts that have been in my Christmas box for some time - I didn't have a piece that would cover the whole card front, but it was good that I knew I was going to use ribbons across the card so they filled the gap between the two offcuts. The paper behind the image is another from my offcuts box, this time from Docrafts.
My card is based on Freshly made sketches 68:

A touch of teal ...
... for this card I've used papers and elements from a Docrafts 'touch of teal' kit that I bought a long time ago - probably four or five years. The card was made from offcuts, one piece being cut with a scalloped nestie and then brushed with black soot distress ink.
The card is based on the January: between the lines sketch on Kathy's waffle sketch file:

Another one for Mema's crafts favourites of 2012
As I said in the previous post, Mema's crafts are asking us to show our favourite card of the year and they are allowing us to make two choices, so now I've had another hard decision to pick my next favourite from my original Top twelve of 2012.
I'm choosing a digital project I did in February 2012, which I had great fun creating - this was the original post: You are my queen of hearts:
Favourites of 2012 for Mema's crafts
Regular visitors to my blog will know that at the beginning of the year I post my 12 favourite cards of the previous year - one for each month, which I did for my Top twelve of 2012.
Mema's crafts are asking us to show our favourite card of the year - it was difficult to choose one for each month, but much more difficult to choose one for the whole year, but I think it has to be the birthday card that I made for mum in November, partly because I was really pleased with the card, but also because it was for my mum. This is the link for the original post Mum's birthday.

From our house to yours
This is another card using a recycled element - the lovely sparkly tree, to which I've added a bit of red colour with a copic pen and also used this for the edges. papers are Christmas Home at Teresa Collins, the band of black flowers and the sentiment are from stash. This is an A5 card because the tree image is quite large.

Christmas Home
'Christmas Home' is the name of the Teresa Collins background paper that I've used for this card. The main image is one recycled from a card received - the holly berries have been glittered - backed on to red card and the spiked circle was also recycled from another card and matted on to another nestie die cut. The little 'merry Christmas' sentiment is one that has been in my Christmas sentiments box for ages. The strip of black gems were from Poundland.
This was based on the square sketch for Mojo Monday 274:

CHNC challenge 106: Santa has gone into hiding
It's time for the first CHNC challenge of 2013 - for challenge 106 I'm asking you to create any Christmas card that doesn't feature Santa because he was working so hard before Christmas 2012 that he has now gone into hiding! The chance to win a prize this week has tripled because of the generosity of so many sponsors I am now able to offer at least two prizes a week and sometimes three - this week there are three.
Don't forget that any card that you enter into my CHNC weekly challenges can also be added to my CHNC challenge extra monthly challenge which is being sponsored by Bugaboo Stamps.
For my card I've used a new stamp that I received in the post a yesterday. When we were away in Maidstone about three months ago I saw this stamp in a craft shop, but hesitated to buy it - when I went back it had gone, so I searched on the internet and managed to get one nearly half price in a sale - result!
The stamp is from Stampendous called 'snowy postcard' - I inked with memento rich cocoa and it stamped beautifully first time. I torn the edges of the white card and brushed with vintage photo distress ink. For a change I've not used any designer paper, just a snippet strip of foiled brown and gold down the side (because only top and bottom showed I got away with using a small offcut) and a gold sentiment, both of which have been in my stash for years and needed using.

Guest Designer for Playing in Paradise 98
I was honoured to be invited to be a Guest Designer for Playing in Paradise 98 where the challenge is to use something new.
I decided to make a tri-fold square card, using new papers from Authentique peaceful collection.
For the front I used new stamps that I had purchased while on holiday in Eastbourne but hadn't previously inked them. The doorway is from PaperArtsy HP1011 set, the script from HP1007 and the flower shapes from HPXT02, all inked with memento tuxedo black. Black soot distress ink was used to brush the edges and across the doorway. The corrugated flower shapes are from Hobbycraft.

... the fourth card made with a piece of the Guy's life earthtones vellum - yay! I used up the snippets without them going in the box! I've used some of the brads again and a cut out of a car that's been lurking for ages and ages (think it was part of a magazine freebie originally) and a sentiment.

Guy's life again ...
... I thought I ought to use up the other two 6 x 6 pieces of Guy's life earthtones vellum rather than put it in my offcuts box, so here is another card, once again using up some brads I've had for ages and a Sizzix die cut car in red mirror with silver headlights (although they look black here) - I hardly ever use my Sizzix dies nowadays, which is silly because I have boxes of them - must try and remember them (or at least some of them). The addition of a sentiment and the card was done.

Guy's life ...
... having made a card earlier using some Guy's Life earthtones vellum which has been in my pile of 12 x 12 papers for what seems like forever I decided I ought to try and make cards with the offcuts rather than banish those to a box never to see the light of day.
So I've dug out some deckle edged stamped images of motocrycles - this one is embossed, although it doesn't like it here - I inked the edges with a Marvy alcohol pen - and I found a sentiment that matched up. Once again I've used some of the brads I've been hoarding for years, so all in all, I'm quite pleased with using up some old stuff.
I've discovered that vellum is nearly as difficult to photograph as mirror card!

I just had to use it ...
... as soon as I saw an M & S gift card that John had received for his birthday, I just had to demolish the card that it came in and recycle it on to a card with a Guy's Life earthtones vellum that I've had for years and never used. I've also used some brads that have been hoarded for years. I've covered up the M & S wording on the pocket of the shirt with the birthday greeting. I'm so impressed that this gift card even has real buttons on it - what crafter could resist using this? Not me!

Winter wonderland
For this card I've used a background piece of My Paper Stash 'red snowflakes', added a decoupaged image etc at the base - this was recycled from a card received. Crystal ice stickles was added to the centres of the snowflakes and across the bottom. I had to take the photograph at an angle because the background is mirror card which reflects so much head-on with flash.

Extra! Extra! Read all about it ...
... today sees the launch of my CHNC challenge extra for January - a new blog that is a spin off of my CHNC challenge blog that has now been running for two years. Weekly challenges will continue on CHNC and will usually have a specific theme to follow, whereas monthly challenges on my CHNC challenge extra blog will always be 'anything goes'. So please don't pack away your Christmas stash - keep it available and start making cards for next Christmas. Those of you that did this last year will understand how beneficial this is and those of you who didn't ... perhaps you need to consider that it would make sense to make Christmas cards throughout the year to ease any panic towards November and December. I hope to see you there!
This is the card I've made for CHNC challenge extra for January, using Bugaboo 'AKV Santa' and 'stocking mouse' coloured with copics - all of my CHNC challenge extras are being sponsored by Bugaboo Stamps. I have a Guest Designer joining me for the January challenge, so please go over and visit her too.
All papers were from my Christmas offcuts box (one of my crafty resolutions last year was to use up offcuts - I've been trying to do that all year, so how come I seem to still have as many in my boxes?

Sentimental Sundays favourite
The challenge for Sentimental Sundays 135 is to show our favourite Sentimental Sunday entry - I've chosen this one featuring these cards:
Five favourite Christmas cards
Debby of A Scrap Journey is asking us to show our five favourite Christmas cards. I found this such a challenge. I make loads of Christmas cards - I wouldn't say that any of them are wonderful, but I had a hard job to narrow my choice down to five.
So here we go:
This was first shown here - I used one of my favourite Penny Black stamps for this:
Next is a simple black and gold card using some favourite snowflake background stamps and a Christmas mosaic stamp by Amy Wilson - you can read about it here:
My third choice is Sassy Suzi in red - read about it here - using one of my favourite Greetings Farm stamps:
The next one here is a clean and simple black and white card using a lovely three kings Clarity stamp and a Kanban image stamped a couple of times down the side:#
And my last choice here is a very recent card that I made at the request of a friend to give to his wife who loves seeing cards with the Inkadinkado angel stamp on them, adding some of my favourite Inkadinkado snowflakes stamps randomly:
Why not join in the fun and link for Debby's My Five Favourite Christmas Cards.
Name those stamps - Christmas Quiz
When I came across Jules' 'name those stamps - Christmas Quiz' I just had to take part. I love Penny Black stamps and it was a joy to find all the stamps that Jules had provided teasing snippet pictures for. If you'd like to join in then click here.
Jules is adding prizes to the box of goodies every day for the 12 days of Christmas.

Why is it so difficult ...
... to make a card for someone special.
It's John's birthday tomorrow - I really should have made his card before Christmas, but I kept putting it off ... and today realised that I needed to get on with it!
The first thing I tried was a disaster - colouring went wrong and it ended up in the bin.
In the end I've resorted to using some fancy chipboard letters that I've had for so long that I can't remember where they were from. One or two of them had little flowers on them, so I changed those for gems. As John has very little sight this actually is the kind of card he will love.
The card blank is 8" x 8" to accommodate all the letters. I printed the sentiment and cut out with a nestie, edging with an alcohol pen.
This is very different to what I first had in mind, but I think John will like it because it isn't cluttered with anything other than the lettering and a few little gems.
I'm linking this for:
Tuesday morning 178: anything goes - challenge yourself - it certainly was a challenge trying to decide what to do for John's card - happy in the end!

CHNC challenge 105 ...
... here we go, starting Christmas cards now for next year - please come and join in my CHNC challenge 105 and avoid the panic that tends to set in as December looms. This week you can show any Christmas card that you haven't shown before or make a new one to start off your collection for 2013.
For my card I've used an offcut of some mirror card that I used last week, wrapped around with a piece of blue and silver ribbon, topped with a sentiment strip. The topper and snowflakes have been in my Christmas stash for years - it's about time I used up things like this. The topper is very glittery.
If you happen to be reading this after 1 January, then please also come and join my on my new CHNC challenge extra monthly 'anything goes', where you might be randomly chosen to win $21 to spend on Bugaboo Stamps.

CASology 25: favourites week
It's favourites week on CASology, so I've chosen this card that I originally showed on 8 July 2012 - details here:
As it's Christmas I've got no new crafting to show ... should be back soon once the festivities are over, although it looks as if I'll be busy till the end of the week.
Hope everyone had a good Christmas Day and enjoy the rest of the holiday season.
