A bygone era

Please click here for a chance to win a 2-day ticket for the Big Stamp & Scrapbooking Show at Alexandra Palace 20-21 September

I had a lovely box of  Pink Orchid toiletries for my birthday. As I opened the box I was surprise to see that there was a lovely pink and gold foiled piece of card at the back which was too good to waste. The square at the bottom of the card was cut from the soap box. The 'Pictorial review fashion book' paper is from some ephemera that I bought in a pack some time ago. I decided to finish the card with some gold foil strips and a Best Wishes sticker.

First card using shapes from Scan n Cut

Please click here for a chance to win a 2-day ticket for the Big Stamp & Scrapbooking Show at Alexandra Palace 20-21 September

Yesterday I plugged in my new Scan n Cut that had just been delivered and tried out a few basic shapes that are in the memory. This is my first card using something that was cut on the machine. I have to giggle to myself really because the shapes I chose to make are ones that I could have done anyway with nestie labels dies that I've got - lol! But I had to make a start somewhere and this seemed an easy option.

I stamped on to the smallest shape with part of the Penny Black 'letters and flowers' inked with fired brick distress ink and then used the ink to brush the edges of the shapes.

The background of the card is a piece of pearlised embossed paper that was left from a previous card - a large snippet, but a snippet nevertheless, so an opportunity to join playmates at Pixie's snippets playground again. This was also brushed with fired brick distress ink.

I found up a snippet of some gloss card that had been coloured with alcohol inks ages ago - about time it was used! - wrapped around with some lovely organza ribbon (bought a whole big roll of this some time ago when I needed to match up with a wedding card I was making - I think the roll will last forever!) The birthday sentiment was lightly brushed with the distress ink.

What's On Your Workdesk? Wednesday 274

Please click here for a chance to win a 2-day ticket for the Big Stamp & Scrapbooking Show at Alexandra Palace 20-21 September

It is ages and ages since I've linked to WOYWW and I've missed having a nose at everyone else's workdesks, although, admittedly I do 'see' quite a few WOYWWer in my wanders through blogland. If you don't know what I'm talking about have a click on WOYWW 274, have a nose around ... and more importantly, share a photo or two of your workspace for others to visit.

I've often thought of 'returning to the fold', so to speak ... and at last, here I am!!

I'm excited to show you my workspace, because a big parcel arrived yesterday - I wonder if you can spot what was in it?

Well, I've had to move my cricut to the back of the left where I sit, my eBosser and some other things have been dumped there for the time being:

Because I needed to make room for my new toy - the Brother Scan n Cut. I powered it up today and cut a few shapes - that's as far as I've got.

Here's the new toy in all its glory!

Now I have a dilemma. I have lots of cards to make (I'm now on lots of Design Teams, which is wonderful, but does mean that I need to keep up with getting things done. Do I get ahead with all those commitments, so that I can then play with the new toy ... or do I play with the new toy and then get everything done in a hurry after that. And, the big thing that I've needed to do for ages and need to do even more now is have a sort out!! Having bought a new unit a few months ago housing quite a number of Really Useful Boxes, I promised myself that I would have a good sort out ... it hasn't happened yet. Those who know me well, know that I like to be organised, so I do need this sort out. Watch this space ... you never know, I might be able to come back next week and show that the sort out is in progress.

Update: If anyone's interested I've just made a card using some cuts from the Scan n Cut - it's here if you'd like a look.

Please click here for a chance to win a 2-day ticket for the Big Stamp & Scrapbooking Show at Alexandra Palace 20-21 September

A while back CASology asked for us to suggest a word that could be used for a future challenge and I suggested 'under'. My word is being used for this week's challenge and I was asked to supply a guest card.
So this is the CASology challenge 111:

The wording was computer generated and printed directly on to the card. The Funstamps 'puddle duck' was inked with memento tuxedo black and the image coloured with spectrum noir alcohol pens.

This is my design card for Fan-tastic Tuesday 51 - please click on the link to see the lovely crafting of the rest of the team and join in our challenge.

I used Paper Pretties 'brew your coffee' digital image (supplied by Paper Pretties, who are the sponsors for the challenge), colouring with spectrum noir pens, tearing around the card and brushing with a mixture of tea dye and brown corduroy distress inks. I matted this on to a piece of kraft card that had been brushed with brown corduroy to show up the texture and this was then matted on to a kraft card blank. A few felt buttons from Poundland were added.

The background paper is a piece of unknown paper  with some corrugated paper and flower ribbon strips added. The image is Stitchy Bear Lil Diva 'flower fairy' digital image, kindly supplied by the sponsor, coloured with spectrum noir pens. I tore around the image using a perspex template and round another piece of matching paper as a backing.  Flower from Hobbycraft with prima spacer in the centre, Craftwork cards sentiment circle and various gems.

Once again I stamped trees on to kraft paper using stamps from Clearly Besotted 'modern Christmas' collection - the sentiment was from Anna Griffin - mounted on to kraft card, black and then on to a kraft card blank. The felt star buttons (lovely touchy feely) were from Poundland.

This is my first design card for Christmas cards all year round September challenge: keep it krafty. Please click on the link to see the lovely krafty designs of the rest of the team ... and we hope you will join in our challenge with your krafty Christmas creations.

The paper is Bazzill Basics 'Timeless', mounted on to a kraft card blank. The trees were stamped on to kraft paper using stamps from Clearly Besotted 'modern Christmas' collection - the sentiment was from that collection too. The felt buttons (lovely touchy feely) were from Poundland. I added gems to the tops of the trees for a little bit of bling.

The glory of Christmas challenge 41

Please click here for a chance to win a 2-day ticket for the Big Stamp & Scrapbooking Show at Alexandra Palace 20-21 September

There is a bingo grid for today's Glory of Christmas challenge 41:

Please click on the challenge link to see the lovely designs of the rest of the team - and we would love you to choose a line of 3 to use on a Christmas creation and join in with your entries.

I chose the left colum down: ribbon snowflake and silver, although I also have glitter and trees on my card.  The background, topper and sentiment are all from Hunkydory's moonlight Christmas. The lovely organza and glitter ribbon with the snowflakes was part of a prize I won a while back - this is the first time I've used any of it.

CHNC challenge 192: people matter

Please click here for a chance to win a 2-day ticket for the Big Stamp & Scrapbooking Show at Alexandra Palace 20-21 September

The theme  for CHNC challenge 192 for this week is 'people matter' - I'd like to see people on your Christmas creations - at least one person (can be child or adult, but must be human!) I'd love to see your entries there - and this week there are four prizes to be won by randomly chosen winners.

For my two cards I've used card, toppers and sentiments from a Hunkydory Christmas choir set, part of their Traditional Christmas range. The background card was one piece, but I thought it was too good to fold in half, so I added each half to A5 card blanks. The music strip down the side of each card was offcut from the waste around the die cut toppers etc.

The sentiment on the left hand card says 'Christmas Blessings' and the one on the right says 'Wishing you Peace and Love this Christmas time'.

This is my design card for Completely Christmas challenge 27, which is 'anything goes' - as long as it's Christmas, of course. Please click the link to see the lovely designs of the rest of the team and we hope you will join in with your own entries.

I created this card digitally using an iPad background and superimposing Lacy Sunshine's 'Christmas boo' (kindly supplied by the sponsor), which I had coloured digitally in Microsoft Paint and faded around the edges. This clean and simple card was then finished with the digitally produced sentiment.

This is also for:
