The glory of Christmas 13

The Glory of Christmas challenge 13 that starts today for the next two weeks is this sketch:

Please click on the link and enter the challenge - you have until 17 August to do so - it would be good to see you there.

I've used the lovely Penny Black 'caroling penguins' stamp, inked with versafine and coloured with copics.
This is mounted on to an offcut of red mirror card and then on to a torn offcut of graphic 15 'carol of the bells'. I included a strip that had been left over from some alcohol inked gloss card, all mounted on to a piece of embossed stardream card using a new 'seasonal music' Embossalicious folder run through the eBosser.
The little 'from my house to yours' sentiment circle was from Craftwork cards.

An argyle birthday

The other day I made a few backgrounds with my gelli plate and acrylic paint. For this card, I took a gelli plate print from some lemon acrylic paint, scrunching some paper and dabbing on the paint before pulling the print. I then used a mix of yellow and green paints with the Creative Expressions 'that special touch' argyle mask. I stamped on to the background using a couple of Tim Holtz stamps from Classics #3 set, vaguely colouring these with a few yellow and green copics. I'd inked with memento tuxedo black, but, because of the base of the acrylic paint, the copics sort of puddled a bit, but I quite like the effect, so I'm not unhappy with it.

The scalloped sentiment was originally white, coloured with copics and some pearls added here and there.

Distressed sparklers

This card was prompted by the picture given for Less is more 131 colour challenge:

I used an ivory card blank, masking off a couple of lines near the top and bottom. I swiped the middle section with antique linen distress ink and the top and bottom with tea dye ink. Having removed the masking tapes I used a brush to dust some mustard seed distress ink. The Penny Black sparklers stamp was inked with brushed corduroy distress ink.

Notebook for school

This is a notebook for school - I hesitate to put 'back to school' because when I was a teacher I used to hate seeing those signs in the shops as soon as we'd broken up for the holidays.

Anyway, a simple notebook using an offcut of card and some Poundland stickers from a long time ago.

If at first you don't succeed ...

... try, try, try again ... and again!!

Having had a disaster with my first attempt using gilding flakes (it wasn't really the gilding flakes that was a problem, more the stamping on the acetate, but admittedly I made quite a mess with the flakes!). The first thing I tried was stamping the Clarity hummingbirds image on to a piece of acetate that already had silver flowers on it (Dawn Bibby from long ago - about time I used some of it). I then rang the acetate through my xyron so that I would have adhesive on the back ready for the gilding flakes, but when I took the film off the xyron it took some of the ink off the image. I had a go with putting the gilding flakes on the adhesive and managed that, but with a right mess around me!

Having put that effort in the bin, I started to make another one, this time running the acetate through the xyron and gilding before stamping. I tried a few different ink pads without any real success - I couldn't find my black stazon (I might have even got rid of it because I know it wasn't very inky). Anyway, in the end I remembered that I could use Adirondack blending solution to take the ink off the acetate so I could start again, so this gave me some leverage to try different ink pads. I even rescued the failed attempt from the bin and swiped the image off the acetate.

In the end I settled for using teal blue stazon for the one on the left and ultramarine for the one on the right.

I've simple matted and layered these on to A6 card blanks.

It was difficult to get a photo because of the reflection on the acetate and the shine of the flakes - this is the best I could do:

This is my second card for CHNC challenge 136: spread a little joy and love, for which I used digital papers from the Ooh la la Everyday Occasions CD-rom and used 'snowrag' from Crafts4eternity, all kindly supplied by the sponsors. As it's Saturday, there's a new challenge on my Christmas blog - CHNC challenge 136: spread a little joy and love - interpret in whatever way you wish.

For my first card I've used toppers and papers from Ooh-la-la  Everyday Occasions CD-rom, raising the final layer of the topper with foam pads. This is an A5 card.

Put on your dancing shoes and

Celebrate!

A CAS card using the lovely My Sentiments Exactly shoe stamp twice, inked with versamark and heat embhossed with silver sparkle glitter embossing powder. I just fancies making something a bit different and I love this stamp and don't often get to use it.

The wording was generated on computer and printed (after a few trial attempts on paper).

This is for Less in more 130 where this Pinterest picture was shared:

Unfortunately, the glittered embossing doesn't show up too well - get a bit better idea from this close up:

The sweet pea stampers challenge: embossing

Today's new challenge on The Sweet Pea Stampers is 'embossing - wet or dry or both'. The challenge is hosted by Team A, but Team B are invited to join in if they wish, so I've made this card. I stamped ching-chou kuik's fantasy art collection 'flowing in blue' with versafine onyx black and heat embossed with detail black powder. I coloured with promarkers. The embossed matt silver panel on the left was created with an embossalicious folder 'floral vine' using my eBosser. I coloured the image with spectrum noirs, choosing to use pinks, lilacs and greens rather than blues. The panel behind the image is a foiled piece of Hunkydory card with ribbons and gems from Hobbycraft. The flowers are Papermania and prima and the acetate friends circle is one that I've had for ages, as is the sentiment 'to a special friend'.

The colour scheme is fine for LiaStampz 46:

Winter bear tag

This is a tag using Christmas scraps and featuring the winter bear digital image from Dilly Beans for their 'make a tag' challenge. I edged the tag with fired brick distress ink and added the piece of tartan ribbon. This is quite a large tag - about 5.5 inches tall. I might try and incorporate it on to a card eventually.

Birthday wishes

This is for the colours given for Color my heart 53:

The main embossed paper was created with a new Embossalicious folder run through the eBosser. I swiped this with some versamagic pink grapefruit ink. The fishtail piece of embossing was done with a little folder that was free with a magazine. I stamped directly on to the Dovecraft doily inking the Magenta stamp with stazon vibrant voilet. I then added the Craftime sentiment and the prima flower spacer.

... complete with ants! Wasn't sure about including them at first, but they were with the miscellaneous stickers I was using, so thought I might as well add them and it was only afterwards the I realised that I'd stuck them right close to where there's an ant on the DCWV paper!

Christmas silver extravaganza

This is my third card as one of the design team for Christmas cards all year round August: Christmas extravaganza - make it fussy and fancy.

This is another 8 x 8 card. The silver mirror card punched circle was cut with my mini 8 snowflakes punch and the smaller one was also cut with that using a piece of Hunkydory foiled card.

The image is Kanban spring silhouettes (but I think it can double up as snowflakes with a bit of imagination - lol!) inked with versamark and heat emhossed with detail silver powder, with the addition of some sparkly flower gems from Hobbycraft., cut out with a nestie die. Punched snowflakes were added at the corners with little pearls.

More Christmas extravaganza

This is my second card for Christmas cards all year round August: Christmas extravanganza - make it fussy and fancy. Please come and join us if you can.

This is a large 8 x 8 card with a piece of Hunkydory foiled card in the background, topped with a piece of Kaisercraft turtle dove script paper. I overlaid this with a piece of snowy acetate. The embossed strip is an offcut from using an eBosser folder. The image is a glittered one that was part of a set that I bought long ago (have loads of them left). Flowers are prima and the strips of pearls from stash.

Christmas extravaganza

It's time for the August challenge on Christmas cards all year round and today the theme is: Christmas Extravaganza - make it fussy and fancy, so this is my first card as one of the Design Team. Please go over to CCAYR and see all the fussy and fancy cards made by other members of the team and, hopefully, join in the Christmas extravaganza.

Papers are Teresa Collins 'Christmas home. The black glittered strips, little glittered reindeer and ribbon have been in my Christmas stash for some time. The foiled and glittered panel and the leaves were rescued from one of our Christmas crackers last year.

CHNC challenge extra for August

Can you believe that it's now August? Where has the year gone to so far? The months really do pass more quickly as you get older.

This means it's time to start CHNC challenge extra for August and for my first Christmas card of the month I've used three images kindly supplied by Bugaboo Stamps, the sponsor: wise man 1, 2 and 3 and combined them into one image. Please click on the link for the challenge and join in with any Christmas cards you make.

The background paper is a freebie with a magazine from some time in the distant past. The mirror card pieces were all from my offcuts box including the one embossed with the folder that came with my eBosser. Ribbon was from Lakeland (in their after-Christmas sale).

I coloured with promarkers and flexmarkers.

I followed the sketch for 2 sisters 154:

Old-school colour blocking

This card is for CCEE 1330: old school colour blocking - 'I'm asking you to use one particular style only - several different colours/patterns of card cut into block shapes and pieced together, with stamping on some/all of them.'

It's a good way to use up scraps! And used one of my favourite Santa Hero Arts stamps.
