Salt: self control

Because of the New Year holiday, we delayed this time's Salt challenge till today. Ruth chose the subject of Self Control and you can read what she wrote here.

There are many areas in life where self control is needed. When I was younger I was the typical stereotype redhead with a quick temper that sometimes let me down. James in the Bible warns of the danger that can be caused by the tongue and this is the basis of my LO for this theme. Self control is one of the fruit of the Spirit that Paul talks about in Galatians 5, so it isn't something that comes naturally to us, but is God-given.

For my LO I chose a simple white handmade paper 12 x 12 , using another one to print my journaling and the scripture verses.

You can read what I've written if you click on the image - and you will also be able to see that I used some delicate white flowers and leaves down the sides of the writing.

Unfortunately, during the year two of our DT on Salt have had to stand down and we are now looking for others to join us, so part of today's post is a call for DT members - please have a look and see whether you could consider joining us. I count it a real privilege to be part of the team of such talented Christian crafters.

  1. Great LO Hazel, I can totally relate to what you have written and I now have to make myself sit back and wait before I react to give me time to think about my reaction....not always easy of course xx

  2. You are so right about learning to take a breath before reacting. I used to reacte on impulse when I was younger too and I was well into adulthood before I learned my lessons. Now I always like to think that I would treat others as I would want to be treated myself, with respect X

It has been challenging to read the words in your layout.

  6. That's a lovely layout Hazel and it really has made me think! I'm also hot tempered and today has been 'challenging' to say the least and I'm not sure I handled things very well at all. Your layout has definitely calmed me down and could not have come at a better time. Thank you!

  8. Hazel, this is just wonderful. I adore your journaling, such an experience many of us can share and so heartfelt, and the verse from James cuts right to the heart of the matter...convicting. Thank you so much for sharing, your piece is truly a blessing!

  9. I always love reading your Salt challenges Hazel. They are always inspiring & true. Your journaling is a gift.

It is a lesson I need to learn too. Quite often I don't think before I speak at home that is when the kids wind me up!!
