CHNC challenge extra for September

Can you believe that it's now September? Where is the year going to? I'm glad that I've been making Christmas cards throughout the year, but I'm very conscious that time is becoming even more precious and ticking by fast. As many of you know, I sell cards to raise money for Tearfund and will be having an 'at home' day at the beginning of October ... and that's not far away now!

I usually make some packs of cards that I sell quite cheaply - five simple cards in a pack. So I thought I would make five using the lovely 'raggedy angel - lay on star' kindly supplied by Bugaboo Stamps, the sponsor of CHNC challenge extra for September. Please click on the challenge link and join in - it's always 'anything goes as long as it's Christmas' - I'd love to see your Christmas creations there.

The card blanks are some landscape opening ones that are kraft card with a bit of a golden sheen to them. The gold foiled card with star patterns is some that I've had for longer than I can remember. The lovely sentiment was an internet freebie (I changed the colour digitally).

Sarn's Rudolph day

I knew I shouldn't have left it - I should have made something for Sarn's August Rudolph Day earlier than this - in fact, I'm going to have to link my cards and then finish the blogpost afterwards otherwise I might be too late!

I made five simple cards all the same using coloured images from the Lili of the valley set 14 festive foliage - I'm in love with these already and I only received the package this morning. I know it's cheating, but sometimes I need to cheat with the amount of cards I make. I mounted the images on to red mirror card before putting on to white card blanks. The sentiment circles are from Craftwork Cards.

This is also for:

Exciting news!!

It's always exciting to see a new challenge blog get started, but I'm doubly excited about this one.

Suzy is starting her Suzy Bee's Bloomin' Challenge Blog soon - if you click on the link you can read all about it.

And I'm doubly excited because Suzy has invited me to join her on the Design Team. If you would like to apply to be with us on the team, then please visit the blog and see the details and get in touch with Suzy.

CHNC challenge 140: let's get inky and/or painty

Can you believe that it will be September tomorrow. If you haven't yet started your Christmas cards, perhaps you should seriously consider joining in a few Christmas challenges this week. My CHNC challenge 140 today is to get inky and/or painty.

This week there are four sponsors, so there's more opportunity to win a prize - please go over to the challenge and see what's on offer and also to see the card that my guest from Limited Runs Digital Stamps has shared.

I used a digital image kindly supplied by Limited Runs Digital Stamps - Because this week has been busy and quite difficult at times, I had limited crafting time so I cheated really because it's a pre-coloured one - 'Santa this way cupcake', but I've made up for it by using acrylic paint and distress ink on my background papers.

I distressed all papers, including the image card, with fired brick distress inks (one of my favourites that I seem to use a lot). The piece of paper with the diamonds on it was produced by using acrylic paints with my gelli plate. It's a shame that the photo doesn't show the gold pattern that was created with a stencil prior to using the red acylic for the lattice work. The paper is actually a piece of My Mind's Eye Andrea Victoria which has a grid pattern on it. The die cut label shape has been upcycled from a Christmas cracker from a couple of years ago (I think this is about the last piece now). All pieces of paper were from offcuts, so this is also for Pixie's crafty snippets week 87.

I based the card on the sketch given for Christmas challenges with sketches 88, keeping the same size of card as the sketch. To see the sketch, please click on the link.

The sweet pea stampers: fantasy challenge

Today sees the start of a new challenge on The Sweet Pea Stampers and it's all about fantasy ... mermaids, fairies etc. Please click on the link and see the wonderful crafting of the rest of the team and, hopefully, join in with your own fantasy creations - we'd love to see you there.

For my design team card I used Elaine Cox's Little Jasmine mermaid digi, colouring with spectrum noirs I tore the edges and brushed with brushed concord distress ink. The background paper is from Basic Grey urban prairie, stamped randomly with a Dawn Bibby Personal Impressions swirls stamp inked with vibrant violet stazon. I used the same ink and stamp for the lilac panel, this paper taken from the Basic Grey Lilykate pad., tearing and brushing with peacock feathers distress ink. Ribbons are from stash, sentiment is from Craftwork cards and the flowers are Prima.

Colours were inspired by Oozak 20: anything goes/sea colours photo inspiration, concentrating on purple and aqua:

Birthday cake and balloons

This card is for Crafting muskateers challenge 4, which is also a DT call. Crafting muskateers are asking applicants to enter this challenge and also tell a little about themselves.

'For as long as I can remember, I have been interested in crafting of some sort or another, hence the name Craftyhazelnut! As a child I was often ill and off school, so my time was often taken up with some form of crafting – embroidery, knitting, sketching and anything that involved cutting and sticking.

As an adult, for a few years, with work commitments, etc., crafty things fell into the background a bit, but until fairly recently I always had some knitting, crocheting or cross stitching on the go.

Cross stitching is how I got into cardmaking, then I started to produce cards on the computer and then papercrafting itself about twelve years ago, mainly cardmaking, but I also do some scrapbooking, altering etc.

About 18 years ago, I early retired from teaching because of ill-health. Crafting is such a good way of relaxing and trying to forget about the aches and pains! I find that entering challenges keeps me up to date with trying new things that perhaps I wouldn't otherwise try. I sell cards to raise money for charities – this includes Christmas cards, so I need to make a lot throughout the year, which is why I started my own Christmas challenge blog.

http://craftyhazelnut.blogspot.com
http://craftyhazelnutschristmaschallenge.blogspot.com/
http://craftyhazelnutschristmaschallenge2.blogspot.co.uk/'

I had the privilege of joining Crafting musketeers as a Guest Designer for challenge 3 and would love to have the opportunity of joining their team on a more permanent basis.

The Crafting muskateers challenge is being sponsored by Delicious Doodles, so I thought I'd use one of their digital images, which I digitally coloured in Paint.

This sketch was given to be used for the challenge:

The background sentiment card was from Create and Craft and so was the lattice, which was originally white, here painted with red acrylic paint. All papers, including the mirror card backing the image are from my offcuts boxes. The striped washi tape was from Paperchase and the red gems from Pounland, sentiment from Craftime. I used a little bit of Art Institute glitter with a quickie glue pen to add a little bit of sparkle to the balloons.

I'm also entering this into the following challenges:

Shades of red

It's the second week for The cheerful stamp pad 'your choice' challenge - please click on the link and see what the rest of the design team have created and join in the fun.

For my card I used one of the images of the Indian Warrior digital set kindly supplied by Bombshell. I coloured this with spectrum noirs, keeping mainly to lots of different shades of red. I tore round the image using a perspex oval template and brushed with fired brick distress ink. The background paper is Basic Grey Indian summer. The beaded ribbon is a left over piece from some I bought some time ago. Everything was then mounted on to a stardream sparkly red card blank.

Rocking festive visitor

The theme for our fortnightly CCC challenge tomorrow (blogging a bit early because time could be limited tomorrow) is 'anything goes', so this was an opportunity to make up a rockin' snowglobe from a Hunkydory kit, this one being called 'festive visitor'.

As there is an acetate globe covering the decoupaged scene, it's one of those creations that is awkward to get a photo particular in the evening with a flash. Might try again in daylight in the morning.

There's not any actual crafting involved, but it was fun to make and will be something a bit different to try and sell when I have my 'at home' to raise money for Tearfund. There are eight in the kit, so another seven to be made up.

Photo taken outside - not sure this is any better:

Alice in Wonderland

I created this digital collage in response to Lunagirl Moonbeams 'Alice in Wonderland' challenge.

The background is one from Dezinaworld. I used the Art Freebies Art2clock image in the left hand corner, fading the edges to blend in with the background.

I used a round image of Alice with the Cheshire cat, distorting it digitally. I then added the text for the quote.

Caroling bunnies

This is for my CHNC challenge 139: cute. Please click on the link to see details of the challenge and, hopefully, join in - I'd love to see you there.

I've used the lovely cute 'caroling bunnies' digital image kindly supplied by one of the sponsors, Eureka Stamps, colouring with promarkers and flexmarkers.

This is an 8 x 8 card. Background papers are from my Christmas offcuts box, stitched ribbons from Hobbycraft. It was only after I'd stuck them down that I realised that I could have used up some pieces rather than use two lengths of 8" - nevermind! The image is mounted on to a lilac mirror card before being mounted on to the label die cut. The sentiment panels were with some free magazine papers. I brushed the edges of the label shape and the image picture with dusty concord distress ink.

This card is for the sketch for Flutter by Wednesday 248:

Papers are some old Papermania ones (all offcuts of pieces previously used). The butterfly is an Anna Griffin stamp inked with versamark and heat embossed with silver detail embossing powder. I then cut into a frame that came with the Papermania papers and inserted the butterfly. The banner piece down the middle is a scrap left over from a silver mirror embossed piece made with a folder with my eBosser.

The panel on the left is vellum, run through my xyron - the script is embossed although you can't see that here. The Cheerful Stamp Pad Challenge 67 Your choice

Exciting news - I was asked by Vicki Romaine to join The Cheerful Stamp Pad Design Team! This is my first challenge with the team.

Challenge 67 is 'your choice' and it's sponsored by Bombshell.

Please click on the challenge link and see what the rest of the Design Team have made and, hopefully, join in with the challenge - I'd love to see you there.

I based my card on the sketch given for our sponsor's August Bombshell challenge, so I will enter it there:

For my card I used some of the Indian Warrior digital set kindly supplied by Bombshell. I coloured the images with spectrum noirs. The paper behind the warrior is My Mind's Eye Alphabet Soup Girl 'sweet song' and the striped paper is from a pack by Acid drops & whatnots. The sentiment was generated on my dymo letratag.

Have a wheelie good birthday

For this card I've following the sketch for Atlantic hearts sketch 16:

I used three Color Box small inkpads - silver (although it doesn't look like silver here), pearlised white (which doesn't really show up here on the white card, but does IRL) and gold.

I masked off areas as I used the ink direct to paper and then stamped the Papermania bicycle. The sentiment was computer generated and printed, so the card is one layer.

Sorry it's such a poor photo (might try to get a better one in the morning):

CAS wedding card

This is a clean and simple one layer card, using a white card blank on to which I stamped with an old Anita favourite wedding image inked with versamark and heat embossed with mirror gold powder.

As usual, very difficult to get a photo of a white card and the gold embossing doesn't show up, so I'm including a little close up as well. I coloured the faces and the groom's suit with pale spectrum noirs (hardly visible here because I was concentrating on trying to show the white as best I could).

Cherry blossom

I apologise if you saw this post with just the first link and the card, but the linky for Sketchy Norway 173 was showing 1 minute to go!! So I linked before putting any description.

So this is for Sketchy Norway 173: green, white and pink, where this gorgeous picture inspiration was shared:

I used a pearlised card blank on to which I put the fancy edged oval (left over from a Kanban kit), which was stamped with Lindsay Mason's cherry blossom, which was coloured with spectrum noir. A few Papermania adhesive stones were added on the cherry blossom and the corners. I added the big green flower because it seemed to go with the green colouring, but I'm not sure it is a good addition.

Playing with inks

Not feeling too great this afternoon, but wanted to do something crafty, but found it hard to concentrate and decide what to do.

I found some stamps that were free with a magazine - I never inked any of them - and stamped with versafine black onyx and heat embossed with detail black powder. I then torn around a perspex oval template and then stamped on to that with an oval background stamp inked with peacock feathers distress ink. I then splattered with water and brushed the torn edges with the distress ink.

But I wasn't too happy with this, so I decided to have another try, this time I stamped the oval peacock feathers before I tore round the perspex template. I thought I would achieve a better result that way, but in the end I prefer the original one which is on the left as you look at the picture.

Still no sentiment

This is another card for my CHNC challenge 138: no sentiment, using the sketch for Sunday stamps 56:

I used a ready edged tag shaped card, on to which I put some clear organza ribbon. I didn't want to completely stick this down as I didn't want adhesive to show through, so I stuck in places that I knew would be covered, wrapping around the inside and back too.

The circular embossed pictures have been in my Christmas stash for some time, but I've got no idea where they came from.I thought it was about time they were used and thought they went with the colour of the edging of the corner.

I've used a glittered vintage picture to cover over the ribbon joins:

CHNC challenge 138: no sentiment

Today's CHNC challenge 138 is 'no sentiment' - create any Christmas card this week without a sentiment on the front.

If anyone's been following my blog this week you'll know that I've been using up some glittered pyramage pictures that I got some years ago in a Kanban kit. Here is another one, mounted on to a piece of Anna Griffin flocked paper. The background papers are offcuts from some that came with a magazine, decorated with some gold foil strips and a couple of gold gems.

I following the sketch given for House of cards month two clean and simple sketch:
