I was recently asked to make a 90th birthday card for a gentleman. I was given a photo to use. Cheerful stamp pad challenge 83: 'add some flowers' week 2

It's time for some more inspiration from the team at the Cheerful Stamp Pad for challenge 83: add some flowers. Please click here to see the lovely creations of the rest of the team - and we hope that you will get those flowers out and join in here.

For my design card I used Penny Paisley 4 by Bugaboo Stamps (our sponsor) colouring the image digitally in Microsoft Paint. The added red hat is a My Sentiments Exactly stamp inked with fired brick distress ink. I matted the image on to a piece of card that had been dabbed all over with a 'shades of mauve' Blending Blox ink pad by Marvy (I'd forgotten I'd  got this - don't even remember buying it!) This was also used behind the printed poem (you can read the poem here). I used a variety of papers and flowers.

Holly berries for CHNC challenge 171

This is my second design card for CHNC challenge 171: seeing red ... a little or a lot.  It features a holly image kindly supplied by one of our other sponsors today on CHNC challenge 171QKR Stampede. Background paper is Echo Park /very merry Christmas' - the other papers are offcuts left from previous cards. The background and around the image have been coloured with fired brick distress ink. The image and the paper it's matted on to were torn around perspex ovals. I added red gems as berries to give the card a bit of bling.

Christmas bear for CHNC challenge 171

CHNC 171 is all about red ... I'm asking to see a little or a lot on your Christmas creations - please join me.

My first design card has used  'Christmas bear' kindly supplied by one of today's sponsors, Robyn'sFetish Digital Stamps And More, coloured with spectrum noir pens. The background paper is an offcut of some left over from a 12 x 12 My Mind's Eye signature Christmas glitter book papers by Jen Wilson. The square behind the image is DCWV, the stocking is  stray one left from a Kanban kit and the sentiment circle from Craftwork cards.

The card is based on the optional sketch given for Digi sketch : bears:

Completely Christmas 6

This is my design card for Completely Christmas 6, which, as usual, is anything goes as long as it's Christmas. Please click on the link to see the lovely crafting of the rest of the team and to join in the challenge - we'd love to see your entries there. The challenge is being sponsored by Bugaboo Stamps who kindly supplied the steps Christmas image that I've used, colouring it digitally in Paint, with the sentiments added digitally.

The background paper is a print out of snowflakes digital paper from Bugaboo which was originally blue and I changed it digitally to red.  The striped piece is a little snippet left in my Christmas offcuts box. The flower is from Hobbycraft.

I've followed the sketch for Freshly made sketches 130:

Suzy Bee's Bloomin' challenge 23: anything goes

It's time for Suzy Bee's Bloomin' challenge 23: anything goes - please click on the link and see the lovely crafting of the rest of the team and join in the fun. The challenge is being sponsored by Di's Digi download.

For my card I used Di's Digi download 'piano bear', colouring copics and mounted on to silver mirror card and then on to a piece of embossed card that was run through  my eBosser using an Embossalicious folder and brushing lightly with black soot distress ink. Just the addition of the sentiment and this simple card was done, mounted on to a black card blank.

Doesn't the bear look smart and I love the way that his tongue is out as he concentrates on playing - and those little mice are adorable!

Box card for mum

This was the box card that I made for mum for mother's day. A few days ago a package arrived containing card blanks and matching envies in lots of lovely colours to make box cards from Creata - as shown by the lovely Carla on Create and Craft. I am therefore entering this into Creata 25: say it with flowers.

I chose to work with purple and lilacs and it so happened that my Papercraft Inspirations magazine had arrived yesterday with some lovely toppers and card in a freebie pack. I was inspired to use these and add some lovely prima flowers that have been waiting to be used. I printed the sentiment and die cut with a deckle edged nestie, doing the same for our message to mum, which I stuck on the back of the box, cutting out with a larger deckle die. I brushed both of these very softly with dusty concord distress ink.

The card folds flat as the top and bottom of the box piece cave in with the diagonal score lines, so that the left and right pieces come together to form a square card for enveloping - clever design.

Third card for CCAYR April

This is my third design card for CCAYR April challenge, which is to make a card featuring poinsettias, with the option of also using a doily. Please click on the challenge link to see the wonderful crafting of the rest of the team - and please join in the challenge with us. Tracey Orchard (one of the design team) is supplying a prize from Platypus Creek Stamps.

I've kept this one very simple,, using the front of a scalloped card blank on to which I've layered the doily and a Hobbycraft flower (which I hope looks enough like a poinsettia!). These were mounted on to a kraft card blank with the corners rounded with a punch.

Second card for CCAYR April

This is my second design card for CCAYR April challenge, which is to make a card featuring poinsettias, with the option of also using a doily. Please click on the challenge link to see the wonderful crafting of the rest of the team - and please join in the challenge with us. Tracey Orchard (one of the design team) is supplying a prize from Platypus Creek Stamps.

My card is based on the sketch for Sketch Saturday 303  which was to choose any sketch between 215 and 302 - I chose sketch 250:

I used an 8 x 8 card blank, brushing the edges with fired brick distress ink. The background card is an offcut of a piece of Kanban card left over from a card long ago. The down strip was from my offcuts and the strip of poinsettias across the bottom was from a Kanban kit a long while ago. The scalloped shape behind the doily is the front of a card blank (seems a waste to use it just as a card blank because I now have another one the same to use on another card). The poinsettia in the middle is a stamped image coloured with spectrum noir pens and cut out, adding some little red gems. The stamp I used is a very old Anita's one - it also has a couple of swirls, but I cut those off. The sentiment is from Anna Griffin.

Craftyhazelnut's Christmas challenge extra for April

It's hard to believe that three months of the year have gone already. I know that some crafters think it's far too early to think about making Christmas cards, but there are others that feel that it does make perfect sense - so much so that there were 278 entries for my CHNC challenge extra for March. So, if you haven't yet joined in, now is perhaps the time to do so - CHNC challenge extra for April - just click on the link to participate and also see the wonderful creations by the rest of the team.

For my design card for CHNC challenge extra for April I used Chubby Snowman Scarf kindly supplied by Bugaboo Stamps, sponsor of the challenge. I coloured the image digitially in Paint and used card from my Christmas offcuts box, a stray sentiment circle (there is gold foiling on this, not black as it looks in the photo), some prima spacers and three little gems.

I followed the sketch given for Sketch and Stash 136:

Craftyhazelnut's Patterned Paper April challenge

I was so overwhelmed by the number of entries for my Patterned Paper March challenge - over 600 - no, that isn't an April fool! If you haven't yet discovered this challenge blog that I started at the beginning of the year, please click here for the April challenge and join in. The monthly challenge will always be 'anything goes' as long as you cover your card blank or other creation with patterned paper or card, using any size or shape that you wish - there are no other rules! You can add embellishments if you wish, stamp, emboss etc - but you must cover your card blank with patterned paper or card. The creation can be for any occasion.

You can leave a small border around your paper when you adhere it to the card blank if you wish, but only a small border! And your creation doesn't have to be a card, it can be any project as long as it is covered with patterned paper.

For the beginning of the April challenge I've made two quick cards using Hunkydory patterned card and Kanban bottles and glasses.

The bottles and glasses stickers have a holographic look with colours that change according to the light. It was difficult to get photos, so I had to tilt the camera:

This is the second card - there is hardly any light shining on the bottle and glass here:

But here you can see the holographic bling look of the bottle:

Guest designer for Lexi Creations 113: Easter

I'm privileged today to be a guest designer for Lexi Creations 113: Easter.

I used their 'Easter egg Lillie' digital image (available here), colouring with spectrum noir pens. The main background paper was a magazine freebie from last year or the year before and the strip across the bottom was from PDA card and craft, wrapped round with a piece of sentiment ribbon on Poundland.

I tore round the image usingperspex oval templates, inking the torn edges with a spectrum. The glittered eggs were from Poundland.

For my design card I used  'bug jar caterpillar' by Bugaboo Stamps', colouring digitally in Paint and adding the text. The background was created with some patterned paper and acrylic paint and stencils using my gelli plate. There are strips of washi tape and ribbon down the side, although most of this is covered by the Craftime flowers.

The Glory of Christmas challenge 30: peace on earth

It's time for the Glory of Christmas challenge 30: peace on earth. Please click on the link to see the lovely crafting of others in the team and, hopefully, join in with the challenge.

For my card I used offcuts of some unknown papers that have been lurking in my Christmas box (think I got them with a magazine). The glittered angels look much more glittery in real life as does the gold star that has been layered on to the blue foiled star. The piece of ribbon is from Hobbycraft. The Personal Impressions stamp is a favourite of mine.

CHNC challenge 170: going round in circles

I sometimes feel that I'm going round in circles ... but today I have a good reason for that because that's the theme for CHNC challenge 170 - to use circles - any circles, large or small, including round brads, buttons ... anything round. Please click on the link and join in the challenge.

For my card I used an offcut of Bo Bunny paper that's been lurking in my Christmas scraps box for ages (I think I spied another piece that might get used soon). The topper is from Hunkydory, the buttons are 'all is bright' by My Mind's Eye - and I added a couple of circular sentiments for good measure.

The sweet pea stampers: distress to the max

It's time for another challenge on the Sweet pea stampers blog: distress to the max - please click here to see the wonderful crafting of the rest of the team and we would love to see you take part in our challenge.

For my design card I used a digital image by Karen Middleton called 'butterfly yellow'. I used a variety of grey spectrum noir pens to colour the image, tore round it and brushed first with squeezed lemonade distress ink and then mustard seed. I then spritzed the whole image so that it looked more distressed. The background card is from the everyday collection of Core Impressions by Jenni Bowlin by Core-dinations sanded to reveal the yellow core. The strip of script paper is from 'fair skies' by Farm House paper company, again torn and inked, with a piece of Tim Holtz tissue tape down the middle. The flowers were from Hobbycraft and I brushed them with mustard seed DI.
